One of the World’s most beautiful destinations is Italy’s Island of Capri. Delta is proud to present a collection of writing instruments that pay tribute to the beauty of the island as well as its rich history.

The three pens offered in this collection pay a special tribute to the World’s most celebrated underwater cave system, Capri’s Blue Grotto. The unique pen caps feature a specially designed, cobalt blue cabochon that acts like viewing window. When the cap is removed and held up to any light, it captures the special blue glow inside of the cave known as Grotta Azzurra,  Capri’s own “Blue Grotto”.

Even the waves of the Mediterranean Ocean are recreated in hand–chased, Sterling Silver for the cap and recapitulated on the filigree trim ring on the center of the pen.

Celebration versions of the fountain pen in gold trim are also available, retailing for $2800.00 (250 pieces worldwide) and
a Diamond Celebration limited to 25 pieces, retailing for $7500.00

These are definitely oversized pens! Both the fountain pen and rollerball measure 6" capped and 6-1/2" posted (a touch under that for the rollerball). Cap aside, both measure about 5". The ballpen itself almost reaches a full 6".

BODY & CAP: Special resins created, developed, hand formed and polished to a mirror finish in colors that match the special blue colors of Capri waters.

CABOCHON: Specially designed translucent cobalt “viewing window”

CENTRAL RING: Solid hand carved .925% Sterling Silver, portraying waves against the Capri Shoreline. Pictograph recreates classic, marine and submarine themes. Celebration versions executed in Gold.

CLIP: Hand carved in .925% Sterling Silver portraying waves “embracing” the island. ALL trim is covered in Platinum mask.

NIB: 18kt Gold, features collection specific engraving. Elastic and flexible writing characteristics. Platinum Mask to match trim. Available in F, M, B  grades (EEF, EF, OM, & STUB available as a special order from Italy).

PACKAGING: Collection Specific, Delta designed, Italian made, features Acrylic Picture frame inner box with cobalt blue cover matching cabochon; ink supply included.

The Blue Grotto fountain pen is a piston filler, with the piston knob hidden underneath its blind cap. The piston knob itself has been thoughtfully designed. The knurled knob (say that three times fast) affords a slip-free purchase when turning the piston. The knob is turned counter-clockwise to extend the piston down the barrel and expel the air. Once you've dipped the nib and a bit of the section in your chosen bottled ink, a clockwise 'turn of the screw' will draw a rather massive amount of ink into the barrel itself.

Another very thoughtful feature of this piston is that it has a safety stop at the end of its filling travel. You'll know that the pen has filled to its maximum when you feel and hear a ratcheting of the piston mechanism at the end of its journey. This is analogous to a similar feature on most automobile gas caps, which lets you know that you've reached the proper end position.

In another neat design feature, the Blue Grotto rollerball version also has a blind cap! This is for inserting the rollerball refill itself. The pen takes Parker-style refills, which opens up the pen to capless rollerballs, gels and even ballpoint refills if one so chooses.

The ballpen features a twist-action release and closure, and can use the same Parker-style variety of refills as the rollerball. So in essence, one can have a rollerball in a ballpoint body, or a gel in a rollerball body, or....

NOTE: I don't regularly stock the large line of Delta pens, and consequently can offer a special pre-order sale price of approximately 20%-off of the suggested retail price for the entire Delta collection.  I order approximately once per week (please specify nib size preferred, if ordering fountain pens), at: orders@hisnibs.com. For all of Delta's offerings,  please take a look at YAFA's website (they are the importer of Delta pens for the United States) here, and just let me know what you'd like (including Delta's outstanding limited edition pens!).

IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTE: Every nib that ships from His Nibs is closely examined under high magnification and tuned or adjusted if needed. About 85% of modern nibs need some adjustment out-of-the-box from the manufacturer for an optimal writing experience. Most commonly, the tines of the nib are misaligned -- which would cause scratchiness at the minimum; the slit between the tines is partially or fully closed -- which would starve the nib of ink and at best cause skipping; or the slit between the tines is too wide -- which will either again cause skipping, or conversely, flooding. There are other factors  -- such as separation of the nib from the feed -- that are inspected and repaired before any pen leaves the Palace.

The only 100% guarantee of course comes when the pen is actually filled with ink and written with for the first time, but our pre-shipping inspections and tunings have eliminated 99.99999 (my finger is getting tired) of the frustrations that a customer experiences when first using a new fountain pen. Although this can be time-consuming on occasion, it affords our customers a much more pleasant experience when receiving a fountain pen from His Nibs -- and saves us the frustration of dealing with returns!

Warranties and returns

If an item proves to be defective, in most cases the manufacturer's warranty will apply. However, please email us first so that we can determine the easiest way to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. In the case of fountain pens -- which are a bit more individualistic than other writing instruments -- what may at first appear to be a defect (hard starting or poor flow for example), can in almost all cases be resolved with a few simple 'tweaks' to the nib, which we'll be happy to guide you through or perhaps suggest returning to us for adjustment.

Should you wish to return a non-defective item within 3 days of receipt because it doesn't suit you for some reason, again please email us and we'll arrange an exchange, credit or refund (minus any shipping/insurance charges), if the item is returned in an 'as new' condition. If you've dipped a fountain pen to try its writing characteristics, kindly clean off any ink residue prior to shipping -- to save us both a nasty surprise .

We want you to be happy with your purchase from His Nibs.com and hope to have you join the ranks of our many long-term, repeat customers!
