Need bottled ink or refills?

"Hi Norman, I got the pen last Saturday and thanks for quick shipment. It seems Conklin improved and resolved ink flow issue comparing their earlier product lines (or maybe you adjusted it?). The pen lays clean and wet fine lines and I really like it. The nib has a nice mirror surface and the reflection is such a beauty. The nib feels soft and responsive even though it is a steel nib, not like those nail-like steel nibs."

"The Conklin Endura arrived today, and it is not only a very attractive pen, but it is even more importantly (to me anyway) a great writer. Thanks so much for whatever adjustments you had to make, because it has superb ink flow and sets down a line very much to my liking. You have made this all a very positive experience for me, and I am most appreciative."

"Hi, Norm, I just wanted to let you know that the Conklin Endura fountain pen (M nib) in grey arrived safely this afternoon and I just finished trying it out.  I filled it with Private Reserve Velvet Black ink and found that it wrote superbly (as in 10 on a scale of 10) right away.  I'm glad you adjust every nib before it leaves the Castle...I gave the pen a kind of "passive torture" test I've come up with: simplicity itself, I just leave the pen open and unused on the table for twenty minutes.  (And to make the test even tougher, interior humidity today is only about 25%!) Almost no pen I've used will start right up again after even fifteen minutes of unuse.  (Hero pens are the rare exception I've found.)  Well, to my delight the Endura only needed a few seconds of coaxing and no wiping, to start writing normally and smoothly again.  That alone puts it in the elite category of the 25 or so pens I (mostly) enjoy using on an unpredictable basis.  As I use fountain pens as much for note-taking as for anything else, it's important that they not stop writing and require some kind of priming again if left open but unused for a while.

I've always leant towards oversize pens, so the Endura's generous size is welcome, as is the faceted body.  I find that very comfortable.  And I believe this is the lightest-weight pen, for its size, in my collection -- something else I appreciate, especially for times when I am not taking notes but writing several pages at a stretch. So my initial verdict is "well pleased, to say the least." Thanks for making this available, Norm."

"Hi Norman. The "green" pen has arrived safely here at Pen Boot Camp. It's a nice pen!  I'm pleased that it's both full-sized and light; as much as I worship at the IT altar of multitasking, sometimes I really don't want a pen to do double duty as a writing instrument and a bludgeon. Call me old-fashioned. For the fashionistas, it looks great perched on the orange cover of a Rhodia pad.  Perfect.  That's because the pen is .... green (rolls eyes). Oh, and it writes wonderfully.  Which is what a pen is supposed to do, isn't it? Sam the Cat has already tried to grasp it with his prehensile toes. I'm lucky that the table next to where I'm sitting has a pie crust edge;  it keeps things from rolling off.  And keeps Sam the Cat from sending all my pens straight to the floor."

Based on the originally released model in 1924, the new Endura has all the aesthetic design features which made this pen such a timeless classic.

The Endura collection is made from a unique hand-turned, European-grade resin specially designed for Conklin pens. The faceted 12-sided barrel is hand-polished to brilliantly reflect shimmering light off of its surface, enhancing the stunning colors of the three uniquely marbleized resins.

The full-sized fountain pen measures 5-3/4" capped, 6" posted and a bit of 5" with the cap held aside.

Fine details and unique features of this pen include the heavy chromium clip engraved with the legendary “Conklin” trademark name and font with the center ring being engraved with the “Endura” collection name.

A special Conklin crescent-shaped inclusion is etched -- and gold-leaf filled -- in the cap, just above the clip.

The two-tone steel nib is engraved with the Conklin name, the historic “Toledo, Ohio, USA” mark and a special crescent shaped breathing hole.

The stainless steel nib with iridium tip is both smooth and dependable, available in Fine, Medium and Broad. I've found that the Conklin nibs run about a size smaller than typical western nibs. Hence, I'd classify the B nib as a typical medium, the M as a fine and the F as an x-fine. Please specify by letter only which size you'd like, when ordering.

The pen's barrel also displays 'The Conklin Pen Co.'

The fountain pens come with a piston converter for bottled ink...but as with all new pens, I recommend to run a dilute solution of dishwashing soap (two or three drops to a small bowl of water) through a new pen a few times, followed by water only. Step one is effective at removing manufacturing oils that can tend to make the ink less than enthusiastic in heading from the converter/filler to the nib, and step two removes the traces of the detergent you've used...which tends to have the opposite, diuretic effect. The pen will also take International-style cartridges, such as those from Private Reserve. The large, blue Conklin gift box, starter cartridges and warranty are included.

The ballpoint version of the Conklin Endura is virtually as large as the fountain pen, which is somewhat unusual, at 5-3/4" in length. The pen utilizes a twist action for point extension/retraction and the Conklin ballpoint refills are of the readily available Parker-style form-factor.

IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTE: Every nib that ships from His Nibs is closely examined under high magnification and tuned or adjusted if needed. About 85% of modern nibs need some adjustment out-of-the-box from the manufacturer for an optimal writing experience. Most commonly, the tines of the nib are misaligned -- which would cause scratchiness at the minimum; the slit between the tines is partially or fully closed -- which would starve the nib of ink and at best cause skipping; or the slit between the tines is too wide -- which will either again cause skipping, or conversely, flooding. There are other factors  -- such as separation of the nib from the feed -- that are inspected and repaired before any pen leaves the Palace.

The only 100% guarantee of course comes when the pen is actually filled with ink and written with for the first time, but our pre-shipping inspections and tunings have eliminated 99.99999 (my finger is getting tired) of the frustrations that a customer experiences when first using a new fountain pen. Although this can be time-consuming on occasion, it affords our customers a much more pleasant experience when receiving a fountain pen from His Nibs -- and saves us the frustration of dealing with returns!

Warranties and returns

If an item proves to be defective, in most cases the manufacturer's warranty will apply. However, please email us first so that we can determine the easiest way to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. In the case of fountain pens -- which are a bit more individualistic than other writing instruments -- what may at first appear to be a defect (hard starting or poor flow for example), can in almost all cases be resolved with a few simple 'tweaks' to the nib, which we'll be happy to guide you through or perhaps suggest returning to us for adjustment.

Should you wish to return a non-defective item within 3 days of receipt because it doesn't suit you for some reason, again please email us and we'll arrange an exchange, credit or refund (minus any shipping/insurance charges), if the item is returned in an 'as new' condition. If you've dipped a fountain pen to try its writing characteristics, kindly clean off any ink residue prior to shipping -- to save us both a nasty surprise .

We want you to be happy with your purchase from HisNibs.com and hope to have you join the ranks of our many long-term, repeat customers!
