"The Shu Fa arrived today and it's great! Please thank Lai Yee/Teresa for me. Looking forward to finding the right place for it." K.S., Omaha, NE
Shu Fa, or Chinese brush calligraphy, is a unique art form that has been practiced for more than 3000 years in Asia by its greatest artists and literati. Unlike western calligraphy, which often strives to repeatedly reproduce perfect letter forms, eastern calligraphy treats each written character as an expression of the soul of the artist at that one moment in time, and is quite revealing of their personality.
Lai Yee produces hand-written Shu Fa on a number of items, including framed paper, T-shirts, pillows and tote bags (with more items to follow). She can produce custom work to your specifications in various color combinations, with or without English translations shown. Chinese uses characters rather than an alphabet, so names cannot be directly translated from English to Chinese. However, Chinese characters can be chosen which approximate the English pronunciation. Most often, customers choose to have their given, personal name, written in Chinese characters, but a surname, or family name, can also be done.
Please take a look at some of the examples below, along with come traditional Chinese idioms here, and send an email to Lai Yee to let her know what you'd like her to write for you. Additional ordering details (payment methods, etc., are at the bottom of the page).
Please note: Due to the hand-made nature of Lai Yee's work, shipment of your order may take several days (currently running 3-4 days). Shipping charges apply to all orders and are shipped via USPS insured Priority Mail, unless 1st Class or uninsured Priority Mail are requested. International orders are gratefully accepted, and shipping alternatives will be emailed to you once you've placed your order.
Lai Yee is now offering handmade pillows, beginning with her Lucky and Love series. Each pillow measures 16" x 16" and the characters are written with a special textile paint that is permanent, dry-cleanable, non-fading and light-fast.
Love series & Mother's Day
These pillows are made with a brocade material into which Lai Yee has sewn a panel of shantung (a silk-like material which has a sheen, like satin), upon which she's written the Chinese character for 'love'.
Orders are now being taken for Mother's Day, which will bear the three characters for 'I love Mom'. Due to limited availability, the brocade color/pattern may be different from the ones above. If shipping directly to your mom, we'd be happy to include a card, translating the characters and wishing her a "Happy Mother's Day" on your behalf. The price for these is $32.95.

Warranties and returns
If an item proves to be defective, in most cases the manufacturer's warranty will apply. However, please email us first so that we can determine the easiest way to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. In the case of fountain pens -- which are a bit more individualistic than other writing instruments -- what may at first appear to be a defect (hard starting or poor flow for example), can in almost all cases be resolved with a few simple 'tweaks' to the nib, which we'll be happy to guide you through or perhaps suggest returning to us for adjustment.
Should you wish to return a non-defective item within 3 days of receipt because it doesn't suit you for some reason, again please email us and we'll arrange an exchange, credit or refund (minus any shipping/insurance charges), if the item is returned in an 'as new' condition. If you've dipped a fountain pen to try its writing characteristics, kindly clean off any ink residue prior to shipping -- to save us both a nasty surprise .
We want you to be happy with your purchase from HisNibs.com and hope to have you join the ranks of our many long-term, repeat customers!
