2nd Limited Edition

Need bottled ink or refills?

The New York Times article

(Some people have experienced poor ink flow the first time after filling the Mega. It's necessary for the tip to become fully saturated with ink in order for the pen to operate properly. Experience has shown that a good method is to fill the pen with ink from the bottle, and while the tip is still immersed in the ink, to expel the ink by reversing the piston and then to refill the pen. Then, blot excess ink from the tip, place the cap on the pen and allow it to rest point-down for 30 minutes or so, allowing capillary action to fully saturate the tip the first time).

Mega Limited Edition 2   $225.00    $179.00

Sized the same as the smaller, regular edition Mega burgundy pen (still a full-sized model!), this second limited edition version measures 5-1/4" capped and 5-3/4" posted. The complete production run of this pen has been limited to 1999 pieces (the year that Monteverde began) and each pen is numbered on the metal ring near the bottom of the barrel. Dealers are not given the option of selecting specific numbers, so what's included in my upcoming order will be a random selection, number-wise (and as I don't open the shrink-wrapped boxes prior to shipping, will remain a mystery until you receive it! ).

The Monteverde brand was launched in 1999 with one model. Today, the brand is known and respected by aficionados all over the world! Monteverde is proud to present their second Limited Edition pen. The color of the Mega Red Limited Edition Ink•Ball writing system is inspired by the "Corsa Rosa" color of Italian, red exotic racecars.

The Monteverde design team has also added an extra black pen barrel so that the Mega Red can be enjoyed three different ways: as a red and black pen; as an all red pen; and as an all black custom pen when assembled with components from the Limited Edition Mega Yellow.

From the Monteverde booklet that is enclosed with the pen:

Mega™ Inkball™ point: The world's first fountain pen with a rollerball tip and tungsten carbide ball. The Mega™ Inkball™ writing system gives you the ink flow of a fountain pen with the convenience and control of a rollerball. Each Inkball™ point will last about one kilometer of writing!

Filling system: The Mega™ Inkball™ draws ink just like a fountain pen. It can be filled through the Mega™ point, used with a converter or with a standard international ink cartridge.

Clip: Mega™ specific design with heavy-duty spring-loaded, color matched jewelry-grade chromium mask.

Cap & body: Hand-turned, high-density acrylic resins, close tolerance threads for secure closing and engineered Mega™ colors for a luxurious look.

Trim: Strategically placed and color matched jewelry-grade chromium.

Packaging: The unique presentation box has lacquered wood accents and a magnetic closure system. An engraved velvet cover reveals the Mega™ kit, which includes: a Mega™ Inkball™ writing instrument, a bottle of highest quality MonteVerde™ ink and 3 extra point sections.

I would add that the full-sized ink converter screws into the pen's section for added security, and the multiple points allow for easier switching between ink colors, especially if cartridges are used (no rinsing of the converter in that case). The included Monteverde ink is black, but I think we can get a little more creative than that here.

These are really handsome pens...even if they don't have nibs! Simple in design and shape, with a very comfortable feel in the hand. Despite their size, they're light weight, so writing is fatigue-free. In fact, due to their ergonomic, slightly bulbous shape, I've found using the MEGA to be a very pleasurable experience in extended writing sessions.

Warranties and returns

If an item proves to be defective, in most cases the manufacturer's warranty will apply. However, please email us first so that we can determine the easiest way to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. In the case of fountain pens -- which are a bit more individualistic than other writing instruments -- what may at first appear to be a defect (hard starting or poor flow for example), can in almost all cases be resolved with a few simple 'tweaks' to the nib, which we'll be happy to guide you through or perhaps suggest returning to us for adjustment.

Should you wish to return a non-defective item within 3 days of receipt because it doesn't suit you for some reason, again please email us and we'll arrange an exchange, credit or refund (minus any shipping/insurance charges), if the item is returned in an 'as new' condition. If you've dipped a fountain pen to try its writing characteristics, kindly clean off any ink residue prior to shipping -- to save us both a nasty surprise .

We want you to be happy with your purchase from HisNibs.com and hope to have you join the ranks of our many long-term, repeat customers!
