Speeno

Need bottled ink or refills?

"Norman, The Speenos made it here in record time.  Thanks for you fast service.  They are great little pens!  A fountain pen that fits in the hidden pocket of a pair of Levis... who would have thought?"
K. P., Seattle, WA

"Speeno! Wow! This is the pen. Are you sure this was only $10? You are the man Mr. Nibs!!"
C.E, Spring Hill, TN

"I received the Speeno today - thanks! the nib is absolutely fab -  just the kind of thickness I really enjoy to write with...I'm think I'm going to have to shed tears if the answer to my next question is a no, but Ill chance it - you wouldn't happen to have 2 more that I could buy would you? I think this is my pen of choice for sure and I want to have a couple of spares!"
R.R., London, UK

"Oh my goodness those are the cutest darned little things EVER and they write SO nicely!! Thank you :D They are definitely going to be enjoyed!"
 K.C., Lincoln, NE

"I got my Speenos and ink today and they're simply awesome! They're some of the best pens I've ever used, definitely a step up from the Pentel RSVPs I usually use. Thanks for getting them to me so quickly."
R.P., Charlottesville, VA

"I recently saw the newsletter that featured the Speeno hooded nib fountain pens and mentioned to my wife Anna.  Well, unbeknownst to me, she decided it would make a great stocking stuffer so she got me two!  I just wanted to write to you to let you know how amazed I am at these little Gems!  They write fantastically.  I loaded one up with Parker Sapphire blue ink and the other with Aurora black ink and they write great.  Thanks again for some wonderful products!" R.M., Buda, TX

"Hi Norman, got the pens and knife yesterday. Wow, thanks for the super speedy service. These little pens are really great, never expected them to write so well. Thanks."
R.V., Hallettsville, TX

"Got the Speeno pens today and they are fantastic. Such great pens that could sell for many times their price! Thanks again!"
C. C., Baltimore, MD

"The little Speeno pens arrived yesterday and they are absolutely wonderful!  What a fun little pen!   It's very nicely made and it writes every bit as nicely as you said it would. The ink and converters are great too.  Once again, I'm a happy customer!  I look forward to the next time.  Thanks for the speedy delivery, too." J.S., Tuxedo, NC

"They're lovely little pens - beautiful nibs, and they're very comfortable in the hand. They're going to be favourites, I think."
Karen Traviss, noted novelist (see her website here)

"They arrived today, Norman, along with your nice note.  I inked one right away and couldn't be more pleased.  I recently bought the tiny Zebra pen/pencil set from Day-Timers and this is the missing fountain
pen for that set.  Only the Speeno is even smaller when collapsed.  I prefer the Asian extra fine nib because I write and draw small; this nib is my favorite width and very, very smooth.  I didn't have to tweak it at all, it was smooth from the start.  I'm using Noodler's black and there's no stuttering nor skipping nor flooding.
Did I say I'm pleased with this pen?  I meant to say so. Oh, and I don't know what the key is for either."

M.V., Antioch, IL

Speeno #1013    $10.00    Sold out (no longer manufactured)

Now this is a cute, and practical pen. Measuring just 3-/14" when hanging from your belt, purse or keychain, this all-metal wonder unscrews from its cap to reveal not a little ballpoint, but an extra-fine hooded fountain pen!

Pretty cute huh? But since it's now only 3" long, also a bit impractical as a writing instrument (the little cap is not designed to post, as it would usually stay chained). Fortunately, it has a little trick up its sleeve...or should I say in its sleeve...for you just need to pull on its back end to telescope the barrel out to a very comfortable 4-1/2", perfect for a quick note, or even a lengthier list.

Neat, but any pen I've seen of this size has always forced one to use a mini-international ink cartridge at best. Not so the Speeno, as unscrewing the all-metal fittings between the section and barrel reveals a pump filler for use with bottled ink!

The Speeno makes for a perfect little go-anywhere fountain pen for yourself (with its all-metal construction, I had no fear in just sticking one into my pants pocket), someone who likes anything that's a bit of a gadget, or as a stocking stuffer.

As for the little key that comes with each one? I'm still looking for the lock.

Filling instructions

Several customers have written requesting filling instructions for the Speeno, so I thought I'd post them here.

1. Remove the cap and unscrew the nib section from the body of the pen.
2. Submerge the nib and feed (the black plastic part beneath the nib), into the
ink.
3. Keeping it in the ink the whole time, depress the metal bar above the
plastic sac in the converter.
4. Release the metal bar, but keep the nib submerged. At this point a small
quantity of ink is being sucked-up into the converter through a partial
vacuum, as it re-inflates. This should take about 6-7 seconds, so just hold
it there.
5. Repeat steps 4 & 5, four to five times to completely (or nearly so), fill
up the converter.

And that's it! Now if you started with an empty converter, you'd probably be
able to see a couple of bubbles of air in the ink, especially the first time
you depress the bar. By the fourth 'take-up' of ink, it should be slightly
visible in the plastic sac itself (these types of fillers will never fill fully, and due to the
small size of this one, very little ink will actually be captured in the visible part).

*Tom Brent of North Tonawanda sent in the following 'conversation', which I think of as an 'Ode to a Speeno'  .

Santa Claus:  What would you like for Christmas, young man?

Me:  Well...I would love a pen that would be durable and compact enough to fit in my pant's pocket or on a key ring.  It would write smoothly and have a very fine point so that I could write in a small calendar.  Preferably, I would like it to be a fountain pen...a hooded nib would be perfect.  If possible, I would like it to expand in size so that it would be a comfortable fit for my hand.  I would like an easy fill system that uses bottled ink instead of cartridges.  Oh yes...if it could have a cap that somehow screws on so that it doesn't come loose in my pocket...I have enough ink stained clothing.

Santa Claus:  So what you are telling me is that you would like a pen that is a combined version of a Fisher Space Pen in size, a Parker 51 in a fill system, and an expanding mechanism like the Rotring Expandable Pen.

Me:  Exactly.

Santa Claus:  We could make something like that...it's just that it would be too expensive to produce.  An Ipod would be cheaper...How about an Ipod?

Thanks Tom!

Warranties and returns

If an item proves to be defective, in most cases the manufacturer's warranty will apply. However, please email us first so that we can determine the easiest way to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. In the case of fountain pens -- which are a bit more individualistic than other writing instruments -- what may at first appear to be a defect (hard starting or poor flow for example), can in almost all cases be resolved with a few simple 'tweaks' to the nib, which we'll be happy to guide you through or perhaps suggest returning to us for adjustment.

Should you wish to return a non-defective item within 3 days of receipt because it doesn't suit you for some reason, again please email us and we'll arrange an exchange, credit or refund (minus any shipping/insurance charges), if the item is returned in an 'as new' condition. If you've dipped a fountain pen to try its writing characteristics, kindly clean off any ink residue prior to shipping -- to save us both a nasty surprise .

We want you to be happy with your purchase from HisNibs.com and hope to have you join the ranks of our many long-term, repeat customers!
