I recently discovered a limited supply of this terrific, boxed stationery set, which comprises an any year diary, address book and ballpoint pen, with all of the artwork done by the eco-surrealistic artist, Schim Schimmel.

Born in Arizona in 1954, William Schimmel, Jr. -- or Schim, as he likes to be called -- has become an immensely popular artist, whose works express his feelings of the interplay of the natural Universe, planet Earth, its wildlife, and landforms in a surreal juxtaposition that suggests the interdependability of all. Schim was the pioneer of this "eco-surrealism" school of art which is now subscribed to by many other artists.

Each hardcover book is a work of art itself, from their rich-blue bindings to restful magenta pages. The boxed set makes a perfect gift for oneself, Mother's Day or Earth Day (April 22nd).

The any year diary, which measures 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" closed, consists of 124 pages -- comprising a beginning page where the owner can record their name, address, phone number, mobile phone number and email address. The main bulk of the book is divided into the 12 months, with Schim's artwork interspersed throughout. Those pages used for writing have soft 'watermark' images of that same artwork, and each one has space marked-out for recording four days, with each section dated in the manner of first, second, third, etc. This allows for the diary to be used for any year, so you can start one diary now, and use another one for next year! The last page of the diary also has space for notes.

The hardcover address book measures 6-3/4" x 5-1/2" closed, and is designed to last a lifetime. The book has 122 pages, divided into 105 pages for names/addresses (each page has space for six entries, each of which comprise name, address, home phone, work phone, fax, mobile phone and email address) in alphabetized sections; 12 monthly calendar pages for recording birthdays; and 5 pages at the end for notes.

Completing the set is a plastic ballpoint pen (it takes Parker-style refills) which extrudes and retracts the point by pushing down on the cap. Suitable if the gift is given to a child, the quality of the diary and address book really call for substituting a finer writing instrument, in my opinion. Although the pages of the books are not marked as to weight, they are substantial and very fountain pen friendly! I actually found the paper to be superior to that used in a number of my personal journals -- which cost substantially more!

Warranties and returns

If an item proves to be defective, in most cases the manufacturer's warranty will apply. However, please email us first so that we can determine the easiest way to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. In the case of fountain pens -- which are a bit more individualistic than other writing instruments -- what may at first appear to be a defect (hard starting or poor flow for example), can in almost all cases be resolved with a few simple 'tweaks' to the nib, which we'll be happy to guide you through or perhaps suggest returning to us for adjustment.

Should you wish to return a non-defective item within 3 days of receipt because it doesn't suit you for some reason, again please email us and we'll arrange an exchange, credit or refund (minus any shipping/insurance charges), if the item is returned in an 'as new' condition. If you've dipped a fountain pen to try its writing characteristics, kindly clean off any ink residue prior to shipping -- to save us both a nasty surprise .
