"Received the pen and ink -- Love the pen (may be my favorite - definitely one of my smoothest)."
C.H., Burbank, CA

Here's a fountain pen design, and texture, quite unlike anything else I've ever seen. Although named the Blue Pearl by Uranus, I always hesitate when reaching for it, thinking my fingers will get wet from the beaded raindrops . Due to those raised pearls/raindrops, this is one pen that will never slip from your hand!

This is a slim, but not particularly small pen, measuring 5-1/8" capped and 5-3/4" posted. The expanse of blue is strikingly offset by the silver highlights of the clip ring and clip, the cap band, the posting stem at the bottom of the barrel (more about that in a moment), and three silver bars that run the length of the cap and barrel (which can be easily aligned in capped or posted position).

The cap top bears the Uranus 'star' logo, with a more stylized version of the star comprising the shape of the clip itself. The aforementioned posting stem has a glossy black 'jewel' at the bottom, and allows for a very firm posting of the cap, which clicks into position on both ends of the pen.

Interestingly, the cap itself measures a scant 1-1/2" in length, providing for a sleek and unbroken barrel design. Removing the cap reveals the steel nib, which I'd rate as an American/European fine, engraved with a curving 'Uranus' and six graceful, counter-flowing lines.

Unscrewing the all-metal fittings between the section and barrel displays a pump-filler, for use with bottled ink. The pen comes gift boxed in a box that reprises the same pearl/raindrop texture as the pen itself. Careful...don't get wet!

DUKE #108 Blue Pearl BP/RB/Gel    $30.00    Sold out

Although this ballpoint says DUKE at the very top, I'm including it here as it has the identical finish and design features as the Blue Pearl fountain pen above, and is in fact shipped with the same textured Uranus gift box. This just further accentuates that both brands are manufactured by the same company.

The pen ships from China with a ballpoint refill installed. However, I'm not the biggest fan in the world of ballpoints , so I've decided to make this a true 'combo' pen, by including a capless rollerball refill as well (they are all the standard Parker®-style, which can be ordered here).

Ballpoint incarnation aside, these are really handsome pens, with a well-balanced heft to them. They measure about 5-1/2" with point extended, and extension/retraction is accomplished by a simple twist-action of the pen top...right where 'DUKE' is engraved. The rear of that band says '108', the model number, and the top is adorned with a lovely polished stone, with deep burgundy and purple swirls...which I have yet to learn the identify of!

The clip bears the DUKE 'crown' logo, and the pen comes gift boxed, as shown below. It's a perfect complement to the Blue Pearl fountain pen, or a great stand-alone combo pen on its own!

IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTE: Every nib that ships from His Nibs is closely examined under high magnification and tuned or adjusted if needed. About 85% of modern nibs need some adjustment out-of-the-box from the manufacturer for an optimal writing experience. Most commonly, the tines of the nib are misaligned -- which would cause scratchiness at the minimum; the slit between the tines is partially or fully closed -- which would starve the nib of ink and at best cause skipping; or the slit between the tines is too wide -- which will either again cause skipping, or conversely, flooding. There are other factors  -- such as separation of the nib from the feed -- that are inspected and repaired before any pen leaves the Palace.

The only 100% guarantee of course comes when the pen is actually filled with ink and written with for the first time, but our pre-shipping inspections and tunings have eliminated 99.99999 (my finger is getting tired) of the frustrations that a customer experiences when first using a new fountain pen. Although this can be time-consuming on occasion, it affords our customers a much more pleasant experience when receiving a fountain pen from His Nibs -- and saves us the frustration of dealing with returns!

Warranties and returns

If an item proves to be defective, in most cases the manufacturer's warranty will apply. However, please email us first so that we can determine the easiest way to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. In the case of fountain pens -- which are a bit more individualistic than other writing instruments -- what may at first appear to be a defect (hard starting or poor flow for example), can in almost all cases be resolved with a few simple 'tweaks' to the nib, which we'll be happy to guide you through or perhaps suggest returning to us for adjustment.

Should you wish to return a non-defective item within 3 days of receipt because it doesn't suit you for some reason, again please email us and we'll arrange an exchange, credit or refund (minus any shipping/insurance charges), if the item is returned in an 'as new' condition. If you've dipped a fountain pen to try its writing characteristics, kindly clean off any ink residue prior to shipping -- to save us both a nasty surprise .

We want you to be happy with your purchase from His Nibs.com and hope to have you join the ranks of our many long-term, repeat customers!
